A view, friendly staff and oh yeah, Sparkling Wine!

On your trip to the Napa area or next visit, take a moment to enjoy the unique experience that is Domaine Carneros. It can get a little busy during the weekends, so be prepared to sit in the sun or inside if the heat of the day become too much.

Most of all relax and enjoy a flight of sparkling wine that with a simple cheese plate. If you are one that does not or has not tasted premium sparkling wines, this is a good place to experiment with different tastes and nuances that make up this bubbly taste of pleasure. The chateau offers white and red wines for the offering too.  If want to experience a fabulous red wine, ask for a sample of their Famous Gate!  It is pure heaven.

If white is more your choice, they have great Chardonnay but if you are lucky to be at the Chateau during the Spring, they offer a Pinot Clare…yes, a Pinot Clare.  They make this varietal by fermenting the first pressing of the pinot grape.  This first press is clear that is why it looks “white.”  We experienced these wine five years ago and since then we purchase a case each year.  It’s only available for a short time so you don’t want to miss out.

Walk around the chateau which is modeled after the wine estates of France. If time permits take the tour which ends up in a private tasting room. There you can make the tough decision of which sparkling wine is your favorite. Take the leap and buy a bottle or two or become a member of the Chateau Society (fancy name for wine club). Here is a little secret, locals will drive to the chateau where they wrap up the work day with a glass of wine. The last pour is at 5:30pm.

We have been members of the Chateau Society for over five years now and have made some great friends.  Actually we have two memberships since I like the red (especially Famous Gate) and my wife loves the bubbles.  Even though we have moved from the area to Southern California, we have stayed in contact with them and look forward to the visit when we get the chance to travel up to Napa.

You can purchase Domaine Carneros Brut sparkling wine in your local grocery store but to really get the full experience of tasting bubbles, you need to visit the Chateau…you will not be disappointed.  PS. The Chateau is very dog friendly!
