DAY 2: FLORENCE
After breakfast at your hotel, meet your guide for a first discover of the town.

The best-known site and crowning architectural jewel of Florence is the domed cathedral of the city, Santa Maria del Fiore, known as The Duomo. The magnificent building is still the largest dome built in brick and mortar in the world. Also the nearby Campanile (partly designed by Giotto) and the Baptistery buildings are worth paying a visit. Right from Medieval times, Piazza della Signoria has always been the civic centre of Florentine life. Although some original buildings and the ancient brick paving have now disappeared, it remains in all its aspects a square of incomparable beauty and elegance. Dominated by the fourteenth century Palazzo della Signoria with its high crenulated tower, it is surrounded by other important buildings: the Loggia della Signoria and the Palazzo degli Uffizi, the sixteenth century Palazzo degli Uguccioni and the Palazzo del Tribunale di Mercanzia (about 1359).

The Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge), one of the bridges across the Arno River stands out as being unique; its most striking feature is the multitude of shops built upon its edge. Here and in the streets beyond, goldsmiths and jewellers have their boutiques.

At the end, relax yourself with a typical Italian aperitif at the DIVINA ENOTECA. Traditionally, enotecas serve light appetizers and wine, you will have the chance to experience a real local wine bar.

Afternoon at leisure and in the evening, dinner out at a restaurant of your own choice. Your tour manager will gladly assist you with table reservations.

Cosimo de’ Medici had entrusted his favorite architect Giorgio Vasari to create a grandiose building right next to Palazzo Vecchio, the seat of power, to host the magistrates, the seats of the Florentine Guilds, a vast theatre and judiciary offices (hence the name “Uffizi” which means offices in Italian)
